Public skills clinics at Valmont Bike park in August

I’m offering six public clinics at Valmont Bike Park in August. This is an awesome, cost effective way to dial in your skills.

Classes are limited to six riders each. Cost is $90 and includes the opportunity to purchase the book Mastering Mountain Bike Skills or Pro BMX Skills for a discounted $20.

We will cover the core skills, then we’ll focus on whatever the group wants (and is ready for). Expect to dial in position, braking, cornering and pumping. If all goes well, we’ll do some dropping and jumping too.

Valmont is an amazing place to ride and learn. Come on out. Let’s rip it!

I’ll post when September dates are set. Email me to get on the mailing list.

You’ll learn a lot in three hours, but feel free to take multiple classes. I’ll make sure you improve every time.

Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, CO: an extraordinary place to ride and learn.
Info and directions:

Anyone who wants to ride safer, more confidently and faster on a greater variety of terrain.

You should be of driving age (I will make exceptions; email me). You should have decent basic bike control. Your bike should fit you and be in good working order. It should be a mountain bike. You will need to lower your seat. You will wear a helmet and gloves. Additional padding is encouraged.

If I don’t think you’re safe, I reserve the right to end your participation and give you a pro-rated refund.

We’ll cover whatever the group wants and is ready for, but we will start with the basics and work our way up. This way everyone stays safe, and they build real, usable skills. Expect to cover:

• Position
• Braking
• Cornering
• Riding up and down things
• Pumping terrain

Once you get a feel for these fundamentals, it’s a series of simple steps to more advanced stuff like:

• Dropping
• Jumping
• Pumping turns
• Flat-out ripping!

IMPORTANT: We do not skip steps, and I will not let you do something unless I know you’re ready.

I use my teaching method with riders of all styles and levels, from kids to retirees, from XC riders to downhillers, from beginners to pros. This stuff works — and it’s fun!

Technical climbing at Valmont Bike Park.

About me:
Hi, my name is Lee and I like bikes. I’m considered one of the world’s top authorities on riding technique. I wrote and illustrated the bibles of MTB and BMX riding: Mastering Mountain Bike Skills 2nd Edition and Pro BMX Skills. MMBSii is the best-selling MTB technique book in history, and it’s available in seven languages. PBS is used as the coaching manual for the U.S. and Australian national BMX programs. They’re both pretty good books.

As the skills development director for the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, I create the curriculum used to teach high school mountain bike racers how to ride safer and faster, and I teach the coaches how to teach the riders.

I work with riders of all styles and levels, and I have to tell you: I’m pretty darn good at this. No matter how nervous you are, or how great you think you are, I will make you safer, more confident and better.

Seriously. As great as mountain biking is now, it’s about to get way better.

Special thanks to Boulder Cycle Sport

If you want the personal touch, contact me for private or small-group sessions. Most people opt for the “Jedi Knight” — two three-hour sessions for $600. You can rock it my yourself or share the experience (and cost) with your friends. Learn more..

    Hello, Lee

Thanks for the session. I think that just the parking lot session was already worth my cash. You were true to your promise of making me leave Happy!

I’ll still have to focus on those ‘Die Hard’ habits, but at least now I have the tools and the knowledge to do so.

Honestly I was smiling mentally all the time, but also analyzing everything my brain, body and bike were doing. I am a Telemark and Snowboard instructor and it was interesting to see the parallels on the weighing of the bike in bumps, valleys and corners.

Will you do an Advanced/Follow up class for this session or for people who like me went through the basics with you?

    That park is wicked!!

(I don’t have “advanced” classes scheduled, but if you take another session I’ll make sure you more forward. I do that with everyone: Cover the base, then bring you to a new level.)

Do you have a waiting list or something? I’m really interested in a September class… for me something at the beginner level.

    Bookmarked your site! Thanks!
