Superior Bike Park is approved!

After several years of process, last night the Superior board of trustees approved construction of a new bike park.

I plan to include a pump track, dirt jumps, rock features and a kids’ area. Yeah, we’re talking about a pump track scaled for Strider bikes. Design happens over the winter. We start building in spring.

If you have any ideas for the park, please email me.

Here’s the story in the Boulder Daily Camera. (Check out the haters in the comments.)

In other news: Golden Bike Park opens tomorrow.

We live in grand times!

Pump track design critique #1

Lee-

We finally were able to get going on the design for our city bike park.

Based on the information I got from your book, I’ve come up with the attached preliminary lay-out for the pump track. I wonder if you can take a few minutes and provide your input. To be honest with you, I’m not totally in love with it, but this is about the 5th incarnation.

I have roughly 175’x115’ set aside for the pump track. I’m almost worried that this is too big. What do you think?

I appreciate whatever input you could provide. Thanks!

Dig-day disappointment in Lyons

In the past year, the Lyons Bike Park has become a fixture of the community and a destination for the region. The entire project, from materials to equipment to final shaping, was driven by volunteers, and it really showed what a community can achieve with tiny budget and huge love.

Last year’s dig day was so teeming, I couldn’t thank everyone by name. Saturday’s dig day — the birthday spruce-up and prep for June’s Lyons Outdoor Games — was so sparse it’s easy to thank everyone individually.

Dig/ride/eat at Lyons Bike Park next Saturday

The Lyons Bike Park is already a year old. She’s in great shape, but we want to give her some love before next months’ Lyons Outdoor Games.

Please come on out next Saturday, May 29, to clean up, make improvements, ride bikes and eat BBQ. Work goals include axing weeds, clearing rocks, re-shaping jumps and (if we have enough workers) building a new inner line on the pump track.

We’ll be out there all day. Who’s in?
