DH training with limited terrain

Lee,
I live in Mt. Airy, MD where there are no pump tracks or dirt jumps. I go Dh ing every sunday. I am planning on starting dh racing in the spring and summer. I just picked up some Kreitler rollers for fun. What can i do on the other days of the week to get prepared.
P.S. I am so jealous of all the places you guys have to ride.

Darn those weak hip flexors

Hi Lee;

In Chapter 3 of MMBS you do what I think is a good job of explaining the pedalling process.

I’ve been paying more attention to my legs and where they seem to get tired on climbs, and I am of the opinion that my hip flexors are the weak link. (seems to be the same thing running intervals on the treadmill)

Does this make sense to you and can you offer any additional exercises to the ones in your book that might address my self diagnosis?

Great book and web site by the way, keep up the good work.

Cheers Greg

Hi Lee

I started biking this year in April. I’m 45 and was getting out of shape and since I’m a mad keen life long skier I figured that this would be the ideal sport for me.

Breaking in new brake pads

Lee

You’ve seen lots of change since we last spoke. Congrats on new directions (family and home), and good luck on release of bmx book.

Been working my skills up on Montara Mtn. Tons of fun and meet all kinds of people from all over up there. Rode last month with a guy who grew up in ptown and now lives in boulder. He rides moto and mtb. I told him to look u up.

Can you help with a practical question? How do you break in new brake pads?

Also thinking of putting a 8 inch rotor on my front (32 talas) thoughts?

Thanks, Tony

test – sweet! the site is back up

Sorry about the various issues over the past few days, including my non-posting. My host, PowWeb, made a mistake on their backend. They seem to have sorted it out.

Coming as soon as I get a chance: Breaking in brake pads.

Rufus is gone

Rufus Doo was my dog and my best friend. We lived through a lot together over 12 years. Three years ago he survived an amputation, but the cancer came back.

Around noon today we found him in his normal spot downstairs, where he hangs out with the kids. He looked and felt like The Rufus, but he was gone.

I hugged and kissed and cried over him, then I took him to the vet for cremation.

I’ll say more when I stop crying.
