Learn to rip at Valmont Bike Park in July

UPDATE JULY 13: All spots for the July 27 and 30 clinics are taken. I’m working on scheduling more clinics. Braaap!

It’s time to get your pump and jump on!

I’m holding two public skills clinics at Valmont Bike Park, July 27 and 30. Classes are limited to six riders each. Cost is $100 and includes your choice of Mastering Mountain Bike Skills 2nd Edition or Pro BMX Skills.

We will cover the core skills, but we’ll focus on pumping … and, if you’re ready, jumping. Pumping is the key to truly ripping trail. Once you learn to work the terrain — ride the wave — mountain biking is way safer, smoother and radder.

Valmont is an amazing place to ride and learn. Come on out. Let’s rip it!

I have a permit with the City of Boulder to teach clinics at Valmont Bike Park. I pay 20% of my revenue to support the park. This program is fully permitted, insured and pro.

Wednesday, July 27, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. SOLD OUT
Saturday, July 30, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. SOLD OUT

Anyone who wants to ride safer, more confidently and faster — and who wants to experience this awesome pumping and jumping stuff.

You should be of driving age (I will make exceptions; email me). You should have decent basic bike control. Your bike should fit you and be in good working order. You will need to lower your seat. A dirt jump or slalom bike is ideal, but any good trail bike will work fine.

If I don’t think you’re safe, I reserve the right to cancel your participation and refund your payment.

We will dial in your attack position and make sure you know how to slow down and make basic turns. After that, we’ll focus on pumping skills. And you know what comes right after pumping? That’s right: jumping!

I’ll cover whatever the class wants (and is ready for). I teach in a sequential manner. As soon as Step 1 is dialed, we hit Step 2. We do not skip steps. That’s why my students have fun and stay safe.

Expect to rip the pump tracks, slalom course, small dirt jumps and whatever else the class is ready for.

I use my teaching method with riders of all styles and levels, from kids to retirees, from XC riders to downhillers, from beginners to pros. This stuff works — and it’s fun!

Lee, I’ll be visiting Boulder for a week in August to explore the local trails and of course the new Valmont Bike Park. I’m getting a couple rentals for the week. What two bikes would you suggest, and which LBS should I go to? I won’t be in town yet for these July teaching sessions, but will you be available for some sessions from Aug 15-21? I’m ready for the braaaaaaaap!

I currently have openings Aug. 15-17. Let’s get you in the books asap; the summer is filling up fast.

Other visiting riders — for example the Flying Dutchman and the Crazy German — have rented Stumpjumper FSRs from Boulder Cycle Sport. Great all-around bikes from a very solid shop.

I also have pump/BMX bikes you can borrow during our sessions.

Darn, I wish I would have seen this sooner! I’m going through another mental demon phase. I started out this spring strong, was even doing some of the bigger drops on Free Lunch and Pucker Up trails in Grand Junction, but something happened to my brain, and I’m doing stupid things and don’t have the confidence to do drops anymore! When I’ve had the confidence to do them, I’m fine, thankfully. I probably need to get my driveway ramp out again! 😉

Keep me posted on future clinics, please. Wish Valmont was there when I lived over there!

Lisa! I’m working on the contract to teach out there all the time, and I’ll definitely keep you posted.

Valmont has some great drops for building skills/confidence.
