Connecting the dots
In a former life I was a newspaper infographics artist. When a plane crashed, I drew the inside of the engine and highlighted the whatchamacallit that failed. On hindsight, it was a cool job, but at the time I was too anguished that I wasn’t a full time bike rider/writer. When I won a Pulitzer in 1998 I didn’t give a damn. I needed to win an expert DH national.
Well doodle-ee-doo. Here we are. But I still use my infographics kung fu: the book, magazine articles, this site and — yesterday — installation directions for GAMUT chainguides. What a neat way to leverage my writing, info-design and bike knowledge, and to help some cool dudes.

Why did I post this?
1. In his 2005 commencement address at Stanford, Apple Computer founder Steve Jobs said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” Full text
2. I like this kind of work, and I’m pretty good at it. If you need tasty installation instructions or user manuals or whatever, email me.
