Here at Lee Likes Bikes, we strive to provide the very best. This is why we’ve partnered with Coach Lester Pardoe to provide on-bike training services.

As Lee’s personal coach, Lester has helped Lee improve his pedaling power by more than 50 percent over the past several years. This is while Lee gets older, has more children and has less time for riding. Lester is very good at understanding what you want and need — then devising the ideal program for you.

Lester’s making us do a gnarly time trial test, but at least we get to watch mountain bikers shredding.

Lester gets it done at La Ruta de los Conquistadores stage race in Costa Rica.

10 things you might want to know about Lester if you want him to coach you:

1. Degree in Physical Education and then attended the National Coaching Institute of Canada to study High Performance Coaching. Participated (student, participant, instructor) in coaching courses by the USOC, USA Cycling, USA Triathlon (too much lycra), US Speed Skating and Speed Skating Canada.

2. 27 years of professional coaching experience … helped Lee drop the climbing time to his house from 31 to 19 minutes!

3. Was a decent athlete himself. Coached himself the last six years of his speed skating career … qualified for three Olympics in four different events.

4. Since retiring from skating has “competed” and completed BC Bike Race, Trans Alps, Leadville 100, La Ruta, Cape Epic, Trans Rockies … missed one day of the Breck Epic with pneumonia. OK Lester doesn’t race, but he rode these events and had a blast … took a lot of pics.

5. National and Olympic Team coach for speed skating. By the way there is a huge cross over between cycling and speed skating … think Eric Heiden / Clara Hughes / Chris Whitey and more … all raced both sports with huge success.

6. Hello my name is Lester and I’m addicted to bikes: Lester has a lot of bikes, of these 6 have fat tires, 1 has skinny…there is a cross bike in there too….see his priorities?

7. Qualified for the Olympics, coached the Olympics, and ran the Olympics…was Chief of Competition for speed skating in Salt Lake in 2002.

8. Loves technical riding, especially technical climbs.

9. Prefers baggy to Lycra.

10. Strength is getting to know the athlete and finding what works for each athlete as an individual. Some need structure, some need flex, some track every pedal stroke and some just ride … secret is finding what turns your crank.
