Oh it’s so tempting!!!

I just built a 2008 Stumpjumper Pro Carbon down at The Fix in Boulder, CO. All this snow is killing me!

Solid build: I used parts from a 2007 Stumpjumper Expert. All quality: XT crankset, X.9 shifters, X.0 rear derailleur, Specialized bar/stem/seatpost/saddle, Resolution tires.

Upgrades: I’m rocking a pair of Hayes Stoker brakes (which I love on my Enduro SL) and Sun Charger wheels. These all-mountain wheels use the Sun Equalizer 27 rim. They’re not as light as the stock wheels, but they seem stiff and durable — mandatory for pinning Super D runs here in the Front Range.

Weight: The current build weighs 27 pounds. I’m sure this bike could weigh less than 25 pounds, but this thing is built to ride, not just hang on the scale.

The ride: I’ve ripped around the slushy streets, and this bike feels cool … different … cool. I’ve tuned the fork and shock to eliminate pedal bob. The bike feels very quick. I look forward to skating across rocks.

Now, as for the riding: If Boulder doesn’t thaw soon, I might have to hit Fruita. Or maybe the Woodward indoor skate park. Full seat height and XC gear … watch out for the Lycra Death Sausage!

I’m rocking the Specialized fork in the photo. 1.5 to 1.125 inch carbon steerer/crown, inertia valve pedal platform, made to work with the Specialized shock … fancy!

Let us know what you think after a real ride. I have heard mixed reviews, but I am still interested in this frame.

  1. […] Setup: The parts are quality but practical. I’m running a 2.2 Specialized Resolution in the rear and a 2.3 Resolution in the front. These dual compound tires are pretty quick and very grippy. More spec details: Oh it’s so tempting. […]
