MEANWHILE, AT THE BIKE SHOP …

Glenn Bell at Bitterbrush Cycles in Lyons, CO is building two sweet bikes.

1) Ultimate badass S-Works Tricross.

I decided to rock drop bars and road-bike controls (thanks for everyone’s input).

The spec is all about rippage/dollar rato: Ultegra drivetrain, Avid brakes, Sun Wheels, WTB saddle, BBB bar/stem/seatpost and Vittoria tires (OK, not cheap, but sweet).

2) New 2010 Stumpjumper.

We’re using the same exact parts from the 2008 Stumpy, so I can provide an accurate comparison (and not spend money).

I LOVED the connected feel of the 2008 Stumpy with Specialized suspension; my new model has Fox suspension, less pedal platform, slacker geometry and more travel. I think it’ll ride like a light Enduro; we’ll see.

Sweet. Thanks Glenn!

Update:

Here’s the Mighty 2010 Stumpy.

  • It’ll get my Speedball seatpost.

  • I’m hoping for 2010 Fox 32 fork, but for now this 2007 32 Talas will continue to rock.

Dude! You’ve gotta also try the ‘10 Stumpy S-Works with the new Specialized suspension. It’s great this year, definitely a big change from your ‘08.

    I hear that.

I LOVE the connected ride of the ‘08 Stumpy with Brains front and rear. Was hoping for a 2010 S-Works, but that’s not what the S gods had in mind.

My new rear shock is a Fox prototype. I guess that’s part of being a Specialized test rider.

The angles from the 2008 to 2010 stumpjumper haven’t changed, save for .5 degree change on the Seat Tube Angle (Actual) – Low Setting. There is 20mm more travel and a shorter top tube. But i wouldn’t call the bike a light enduro by any stretch of the means the enduro is much slacker than the stumpjumper.

Right you are. The current Enduro (generation 5, I believe) is a much bigger, slacker bike than the current Stumpy.

    I’m thinking the curent Stumpy is like a generation 2 or 3 Enduro—only lighter/stiffer/better.

Its interesting to see metallic brown is back as a frame color. That shock and linkage looks tiny compared to my 2007 model. More like the Epic.
