Thanks to all of you who have bought the book and taken the time to share your thoughts.
Hi Lee,
We got the books, thanks. It’s very informative, Rhyler and I have enjoyed going through it.
Rhyler and his buddies were psyched about yours and Lopes signature and the
stickers and fox t-shirt,
muchas gracias!
see you at the races,
Ned Overend
Lee,
I was blown away by this book. It is by far the best mountain biking technique book out there. Also, it validates some of the things we’ve been doing here.
Mike Johnstone, director of instruction, Whistler Bike Park
Hi Lee-
Just to say I received my copy of the book a couple of days ago. I would have e-mailed earlier, but I’ve been too busy reading!!
I just wanted to let you know IT ROCKS!!
It talks to me in a language I understand, & it makes me want to go ride - I don’t need to say any more than this.
Thank you very much.
Chris Bingham
I just received my book a few days ago, and I’ve been reading thru it
ever since. What an awesome book! You and Mr Lopes have done a
phenomenal job putting into words and pictures, the how to’s of mtn
biking skills.
Best skills book I’ve ever seen!
Ohh, and thanks for the personal note in the book.
Regards,
Sean Livesay
Lee,
Do you have any concept of how much good stuff is in your book?
Ed
Lee and Brian,
I’ve just received my copy of your book.
I cant put it down, you’ve managed to pack so much information into it and the photos are excellent.
As a beginer Mountain biker this book is by far the best I’ve ever seen.
Now I cant wait to get out to my local bike track to put it all into action.
I really appreciate you signing my book and the personal comment as well. Also thanks for the stickers, they’re now on my mountain bike gear box.
Once again, you’ve got a winner with your book and hopefully lots of people will realise this and buy it. I’m certainly showing to all my friends and they are impressed with it.
Carry on with the good work,
Trev Smithies
Really good book!! Great information. Very well written. You humor comes through. I enjoyed it.
Question: At one point you show a jump landing, front wheel first. At another point you show a jum landing, rear wheel first. When do you use front wheel first, and when rear wheel first?
Mike
Land front-wheel first on downhill landings. Land rear-wheel first on flat landings. It¹s best to avoid uphill landings, but in those cases land rear-wheel first. Either way, land smoothly!
Lee,
I like the new logo. I want a shirt as soon as you get them done. Also,
got the new book. Great job! To me, you and Brian are the first ones to
figure out how to put together a very helpful and knowledgeable book about
all aspects of mountain biking and keep it light and entertaining.
Thanks,
Brian Hoyt
Killer book! Props to you and Brian (and all involved) for getting it out.
Awesome. I’ve paired it with “Fundamentals” and even started a little “sticks in the ground flat turn” practice. Inspiring stuff.
It all starts to come together, and really helps me learn new things, as well as understand how much I already am doing
intuitively.
Big fat thumbs up! See you at Nathrop in a few weeks! (hopefully) Great FOX shirts too!
Sam Fan
Dear Lee,
Your book has been giving me good confidence for taking on things like
way bigger double dirt jumps and dropping in on vertical ramps. I once
thought that it was never possible to drop in on to a vertical ramp with a
mountain bike. This book sure proved me wrong and gave me the confidence
thanks to the step-by-step how to guidelines and pictures to anchor those
guidelines. So, yeah, that book has been a good investment to improve and
make my riding more interesting. Again, thanks!
Happy trails!
Your sincerely
Allan Wighton
I haven’t even received it yet and I’m riding more smoothly! Seriously, I read through some of the sample pages and was immediately able to apply the concepts on my next ride. Needless to say, I have order the book and can’t wait to get it in my greedy little hands!
Dan
Take care of your goodness!

Heya Lee!
I finished your book and I wanted to say what a fantastic read it is!!! It
was very entertaining as well as informative and there’s something about
being able to put what you do/feel on a bike into words so that others can
adopt and learn from it!!! Both you and Brian should be congratulated on a
great book and I hope you enjoy the success it deserves.
Meanwhile, we’ve had a few cold fronts come through at Whistler over the
past week or so and over 85cm of snow has fallen with more on the way. It
would seem that the snow season isn’t licked just yet so the bike park may
not be opening just yet/anytime soon!!! Also I scored a 90 on your Kung-Fu
meter and hope that my first full suspension bike (which should hopefully be
just around the corner!) will help push me to new heights!!! (pardon the
pun!)
Rock on - catch ya!
Dan
Lee,
I just wanted to drop a line and let you know that I got the book and it is AWESOME. I read through alot of it in one night. There is is something for every level rider/racer. I know I learned a few things on cornering. Great Job!
Thanks,
John Ellertson

Hi Lee
I’m one of the proud new owners of your bike book and I just wanted to write and congratulate you on producing a classic. I’ve just been up in Scotland doing some riding for a week on some fantastic trails and the book was my constant companion. I could feel every aspect of my riding progress, from simple things like braking better to the gnarly stuff like nailing drops I would never have contemplated. Not quite in the Brian Lopes league yet but hey, you’ve got to start somewhere…
Anyway, all the best with the writing and let me know when the sequel is coming out.
Cheers
Stuart
As corny as it sounds, I don’t know how else to describe it. The book is awesome! I have been reading up, preparing for the Otter. I have been showing the book to everyone, telling them to buy their own copies. Hopefully my LBS (Incycle Bike Shop) will call you with an order. I hope all your hard work pays off. The photos, quotes, descriptions, everything about it is soooooo cool. I hope to see you in a couple weeks,
Jason
P.S. My seven year old daughter is doing her first MTB race in May. How cool is that?!
Very cool!
Dear Lee,
The Mastering Mountain Bike Skills book is great.
Already, It has helped improve some of my mountain biking skills already
from improving pedalling strokes to catching air with a trick popped in,
within street and off-road orientated riding. Even though it is written
seriousely, I also like the way it has got a humourous side to the written
content. The sandy colour boxed information is a good additional read in the
book as they give good tips and stories to learn from. The pictures serve
well as they support the text, are detailed and clear and also have
celebrity riders in them, so to speak. The book seems like a unique style
textbook but yeah, its serving me well and I’m happy I got the book.
Happy trails!
Yours sincerely
Allan Wighton
Lee,
Got the book and I’m totally stoked. This is the real deal. I’ve managed to read nearly the whole thing in just a few days. Very well written and fun - really has me pumped to get the season started. Anyone on two wheels could benefit from this.
Happy trails,
Chuck Conlen
Got all the books I bought … great gifts they will make Lee!
I gotta say I am impressed. Seeing Lopes peck away on the laptop this summer while he would read and reply to your emails about the book was pretty entertaining, so I got to see the book slowly develop. I knew it was going to be an impressive book — and now seeing it finalized and reading it, WOW … it came out really good. Not only did you guys fill a void of good how to MTB books, you went over the top. Job well done and I look forward to more — now I can throw away my Greg Lemond and Lance books and learn how to ride a real bike!
Craig “Stikman” Glaspell, Brian’s team mechanic
Lee,
We were doing downhill shuttles the other day, and on each ride up I read a different section. I focused on a new technique every run, and every run was 5-10 seconds faster!
Nick
Luc “Acadian” Albert has weighed in on Pinkbike. Classy guy, that Luc. Send him a honey-baked ham, and he’ll write anything!
What’s up Lee
WOW, what an awesome book, I’ve been glued to it ever since receiving my
copy last week. When I was little, I used to beg my mom to take me to the
library to get a BMX skills book (by BMX Action, not sure what the exact
name of it was now), I must have checked that book out from the library a
dozen times ( : I got that same stoke from Mastering Mountain Bike skills
and I’m twenty years older!! The cornering tips are awesome! I was so
pumped I took a trip north to the Soquel Demonstration Forest yesterday to
try out my new techniques, STOKED!! Anyway, big props for an amazing
project!!
Don
Lee,
My name is Gary Chapman and, I want to thank yourself and Brian
for coming up with the best informative instructional media as of today.
I read the book twice leading up to a Downhill event near Bakersfield, CA
this pass weekend as a sport class rider and I got my first Win.
Prior to this I’d been on the podium five out of five events but, could not
get over that hump and now I’m ready to achieve what had eluded me
since I started racing last year.
Again Thanks
PS (I beat most of the other guys by 15-20 sec.)
Dude what¹s up with amazon? They think your book is an archery book or something… Click on the link to view pages and also look at the ³people who bought this book also bought these titles…²
You do have one good review though… Did you write that Lee?
Damn that Amazon. I’ve emailed them about 10,000 times. And yes, of course I wrote the good review!
Very good job, definitely one of a kind, plenty of great information, awesome photos, diagrams, tips, jokes, puns, everything. Hopefully it will give me more knowledge, along with more riding and training to bump me up to Semi-pro status this year.
Jon
Heya Lee!
How are you? Your book arrived today and it looks awesome!!!
I’m just in the process of shopping around for a new bike here in Vancouver
(my first full-suspension - just in time it seems for this die hard-tailer!)
as the Spring has come considerably early and the trails are already primed
on the North Shore with rumours already circulating that Whistler Bike Park
could open early… the book is much larger in size than I expected and I’m
dreading the fact that I have to go to work tomorrow as I want to stay up
all night and read it!!! hahaha…
Thanks again for redirecting the book here to Van and for your words and
stickers.
Cheers
Dan
Hi lee,
i received my copy a week ago in my mailbox, here in France. The presentation kick ass, great quality paper, good photos. I started to read it as soon as i was back home, all i have to say is: Hueg progress, that what happens to me for a week now. I used to say small details make the difference, and this is case, your book made the difference. Actually, i made great progress in all the fields i read, the explanation are really clear, we understant exactly what you mean.
So thanks to you & Brian for this piece of art that you must be proud of. It gonna help me a lot for the up comming DH season. And thank to Brian and his sponsors for giving us stickers and pictures, i’m an Oakley fan, so i’m pretty happy to get these pics. Thanks to FOX racing shox for the free T shirt, i hope i’ll receive it soon.
Thanks again to both of you, i wish soon i’ll complete something like your book what a great tribute to the moutain bike world.
now my bike is waiting for me to “DRIVE” it on the trail, i have to go.
Steph.
hi Lee,
Thanks for the shipment, I bring the book everywhere with me so that
whenever I am free I can always read it. I want to thank you for including
the pictures when trying to explain things, its so much easier to learn
compared to a book with full of texts. Also most importantly I always have
questions on how tos on MTBing, basically this book have answered all the
questions in my mind.
You and Lopes have done a great job, can’t wait for your next book.
I have received the voucher for the free t-shirt, so can I assume that the
Fox will ship it to me at Malaysia? (Sure! Why not?)
Ride On!

Lee,

I just got my copy and I’m stoked. The book looks awesome. I really like the way you illustrate each chapter with nice and glossy step by step pictures. This is something I’ll read and always refer back to. Definitely worth every penny and then some.
I mostly ride at Mountain Creek and Plattekill. If your ever in New York drop me an email and I’ll show you around our local mountains

I’m an “emerging” sport level DH/Freeride biker that wants to take it to the next level but I’m having trouble finding fast, knowledgable riders to ride with. In this book, I’ve found that rider and then some…. This book is very well illustrated with lots of detail starting from the basics to jumping 50ft gaps. Most of the books I’ve seen go to the extreme of showing you how to drop off a curb, MMBS shows you how to drop off a CLIFF. They have bike setup tips, usefull troubleshooting guides and tons of race winning tips. The list goes on… I received my book yesterday (#55 - Thanks for the signature Brian), I’ve read every word and I am looking forward to trying it all.

Hi Lee,
My copy arrived here in the UK on Thursday. It really is a superb book (the pooches plums …ha ha), well written, informed opinion and excellent photos, Brian & yourself should be well pleased.
This summer really want to improve my riding confidence and flow, and maybe even catch a little airtime and your book will certainly give me the information I need.
Thanks for the stickers & stuff as well.
Good luck to you & Brian
Andrew
I got my copy on Wednesday, Bravo old chap Bravo. There is a few things every man should do in his life and one is to write a book. So me and the boys in Nebraska will actually learn how to ride instead of relying on luck … see you next season pally
Cole Trout, Team Nebraska Downhill Yes, Nebraska!
Just wanted to let you all know that I recieved my book last Saturday, which
means that I’ve been flat-out blissed for six days in a row here. Brilliant,
brilliant stuff. Mountain biking has needed its Rosetta stone and cheers to
you and Lopes for scribing it.
Anyways, I don’t mean to embarass you all, so I’ll stop here. I’ll be
reading more than trail riding, unfortunately, cause its cold up here in Chicago and
I’m gonna be limited to my salt-encrusted singlespeed for a few months more,
but soon enough I’ll be back out there killing the pain with dirt and speed
and sweat.
BTW, thanks for signing my copy. I’m not really an autograph geek but the
effort and sentiment is appreciated. I’ve always wondered, though, why #55,
Lopes?
Cheers, Paul Ignacio
Brian ran #55 way back in the day when he was a BMX grom. He decided to re-embrace the number. You should see his RV — it has a big 55 on the back!
A quick line to say thanks for the swag (stickers and poster) and the encourageing words about 56 being the right age to be manualing. Recieved the book Tuesday. Looks great.
Thanks again.
Ride On!

Lee,
Got my books in the mail the other and it’s even better than the great book I was ready read.
I gave two of my luckiest friends their copies already and I’m thier best bud now.
See you on the circuit this year. I’ll be adding downhill to Super D and want to try 4x as well.
You’ll see my company’s product (Treo Smarthone) as a sponsor for Sea Otter and the Luna Chicks.
Gotta pack a little. Me and the wife are heading to Costa Rica for 8 days of riding on Saturday.

I just recieved my copies of the Mastering Mountain Bike Skills Books. The book is totally awesome and covers everything you would want to know about mountain biking skills. It is better far better than I expected.
I got to see Brian Lopes race and win the mountain cross finals at MT Snow Vermont in 2002. He is an awesome rider and I am glad he published the book showing the tricks of the trade.
Thank you very much,
Sincerely,
Zachary Leavitt
Hey Lee! Got the book yesterday. Looks great. Had only a little bit of
time to thumb through before I went to hang out with my kids.Good work.
Thank you.

Just a quick note to say thanks for the great book.
After a quick flick through looks to be the dogs bollocks.
It will be taking pride of place in my bathroom.
As we all know this is the only place to get peace to read mtb books and mags.

Dear Lee,
Yesterday, I recieved my copy of Mastering Mountain bike skills and after taking a quick look in the book, I knew this one was going to be sweet. I have to say, hats of to you and Brian, this book is a must have. I don’t know how much time you spend writing this book, but damn, its awesome. I’m sure it will help me in Cross Country as in BMX and Freeride. I just want to congratulate you two, you did an amazing job!! I hope you can pass this message to Brian too because I find he needs to now how good this book is, and that he keeps me motivated everytime I ride, he’s my favorite rider and if you guys ever come to Belgium, let me know!!
Keep up the good work, and all the best to both of you !!
Best Wishes
Jan Vermeeren ( Belgium )
Hi Lee; Eric here, So far I think the book is awesome!!! I’ve been reading it every night My wife loves it too. She’s going to be able to use more of it than me, but it has answered questions about why I do some to the things I do, but can’t explain to others. I like to send a big thank you to Mr. Lopes for co-writing this book too! He’s a favorite of mine since I from California too. I live in Washington now Freeride capitol of the West coast. As for the book lay-out, it’s easy to read, answers your questions quickly and the images of all the moves are right on! No more guessing about what the writer was saying to you. I really bought the book for 5 chapters; Break Better to Go Faster #4, Carve Any Corner#5, Wheelie and Hop Over Anything#6, Drop Like a Feather#7, and Jump With the Greatest of Ease#8. I’ve just got to the point in my riding where I need to learn Drops an Jumps to go to that next level. So this book came at the right time to answer all the questions I have. Can’t wait for the next one though keep writing them PLEASE! Tell Brian thanks for the signed copy and all the stickers!
Thanks Again!!!!
Eric…
Lee,
Recieved the book today and it looks great..Thanks for the copy and also for the inscription it made me laugh.. Can’t wait till the next book..

CARLOS
P.D. : I hope I can send you good photos of me and my mates. You can visit

Lee,
I received the book yesterday, 3-7-05, and it looks great! I can’t
wait for the weather to warm up here in Tennessee so my boys and I can
begin cutting trail again and working on our jumps and drops. I
truely appreciate the obvious time spent on the writing and collecting
of information for a book of this type. If your ever in the northeast
area of TN let me know and I’ll hook you up with the best local
trails. PS we’re only 6 miles from Bristol speed way if your into
NASCAR. (I’m not, but a lot of people identify this area with it)
Thanks again and please keep me informed on any up coming books!.
Keith Nakoff
Lee,
I know you guys have been getting lots of e-mails lately telling you how cool the book is, so for posterity’s sake, I wanted to send one too. I didn’t expect it to be so big. You guys rock!
Oh yeah, and I’m showing it to everyone I know.
Joss Dewaele
The book is here!!! And is awesome thanks a lot!! I’m very excited about my next ride (after I read ‘the
book’!)
Renzo
Lee-
I received my book this past Saturday! I must say that you and Brian did an outstanding job on putting this book together. There is so much information in this book, I can’t wait to get out this week and try some of it!!
Thanks again,
Joe
just got the book and wanted to give you props on a sick book. give a shout if you are ever in copper mountain, we have a big crew and love to ride. congrats, kashi lee
Thanks. I read it from cover to cover. Now it time to up my skill level. Great book!
Bill
Thought id send you a message about how your book helped with my riding.
For the first time ever I went to glentress and innerleithen (a couple of brilliant trail centres in the boarders of Scotland) and the down hill was all bumps and berms and cause of your advice i flew down. It was great pumping everything and railing the berms. There were a few rock things that i was too scared to roll so i jumped off and pushed over, yes i was being a girl, but cause of your tips i was right back on everyone on the guy infronts rear wheel and it was ace! Without your tips id have been miles back. Im gonna to go back to nail those rocks and whip it down the trails
If you ever come over to scotland give me a shout and ill try and sort out a trip to Glentress to show you the brilliance those trails are.
Keep Ripping,
james
