Intro BMX class for kids?

Hi Lee,

I live in Santa Fe and we are thinking about having a clinic/intro for kids to BMX and pump track riding. What suggestions do you have for that we should cover?

Steve

Hi Steve,

You can’t go wrong by working through the main points in the first chapters of the book Pro BMX Skills.

With kids I’d cover position, braking, cornering and pump. If they’re ready to jump, teach them super-basic, neutral jumping form. This will give them a great foundation for any kind of riding.

Encourage them to learn to ride flat pedals.

This is not basic!

These core skills — position, braking, cornering and pump — are what I teach everyone: BMX or mountain, beginner or pro.

Rip it!
