Posted Oct. 28, 2003 Synergy To master a sport as tricky as ours, you definitely have to be self motivated and maybe even a bit self absorbed. Most of us are independent, non-team-sports kinda people. We thrive on our individual successes and feed off our own failures.
But there's no doubt that riding with other people adds something. From the cockpit you can feel the extra energy, camaraderie and confidence. From behind the lens you feel all of that, plus the new dimension of collective intelligence and geometric creativity: trains caterpillar through the rhythm sections, transfer lines intersect, jumps are cleared with as many styles as there are riders. Two riders are more than twice as cool as one rider. After watching a few nice group sessions, I'm becoming obsessed with capturing the synergy of multiple riders in flight. Last Monday was my first try. I can imagine way cooler shots; I just have to figure out how to get them. I'll show you what I come up with.
These photos were made at Shells on Oct. 22, 2003. Like I said, this is still an individual sport ... |
